Burningman 2014 Replay

Not one for many words, so here’s my brief recap about this year’s burn. Travel wasn’t bad, camping with a wedding group was nice(quite a few first timers, as many others so it seems), some of the best weather I’ve experienced out there, definitely A LOT more people, spirits were high and the art on the playa was in full effect. Many of the structures were highly planned and able to accommodate interaction of the sorts. Lots of fire, LEDs and music all night, the usual party on the moon feel, lots of new art cars, one in particular I loved and wished I had, was the LED pac-man ghost car. My favorite camp for sunrise parties was Disco Knights(**DJ Tennis), this year Robot heart didn’t post their sets, so I missed Thievery Corporation and a couple other sets, I did make it to Lee Burrridge and Thugfucker, loved it…but had the unfortunate luck of witnessing Skrillex get on the decks we left after 2.5 tracks(wtf?). Heard a lot of hype around Skrillex paired with whatever Seth Troxler had going on, honestly just play good music I don’t care about this dj or that one. Discovered the art of Android Jones, holy smokes, mind blown!! Watching a naked bronze bodybuilder chick do a photo shoot at sunrise was interesting. I could go on, but more randomness would weaken this brief recap. Ciao’_A

Some photos.

We also hit the beach with one the Boomcases, people loved our portable party. Music, sand and the sun!

One of our favorite parties was Deep Ellum with Maceo Plex b2b w/ Danny Daze, pretty mind blowing techno set.

Rise Up #018 – GORGON CITY

artworks-000070829436-hsxi0j-t500x500

Great mix by Gorgon City, definitely a 90’s sound modernized with some hard hitting bass. Press play and enjoy an hour of great music.

Gorgon City are North London producers Matt & Kye. Their already distinctive sound is a logical development of the duo’s individual work as RackNRuin and Foamo. Hailing from the impressive Black Butter camp (who brought you Rudimental amongst others) and due to release their debut album in 2014 as a joint venture with Virgin / EMI, the pair are one of the most exciting and hotly tipped new acts in the ever-flourishing landscape of British club savvy pop.
Gorgon City offered up a platform for the two producers to fuse the deeper sounds they’ve been excited by for years but until now didn’t have the opportunity to explore. Polished, powerful and party-minded, their sound very quickly caught the attention of tastemakers as disparate as; Annie Mac, Diplo, Eats Everything and Mistajam with their early explorations into this new venture.

BPM 2014 Replay – Playa Del Carmen

bpm2014bpm 2014

Here’s a mini-recap of our BPM experience, along with some of the best recorded mixes from this year’s BPM holiday. BPM Festival takes place January 3rd-12th. Mx.

Arriving to Playa Del Carmen was interesting, a shared van-ride almost took 3 hours from the airport, from waiting for the next van to dropping off other passengers at their resorts and re-routing due to flooded streets from the tropical showers we endured through the week. This is where it gets awesome, I arrived at the hotel nearly at 1am, they had cancelled my hotel reservation. Luckily for me they had an extra room and honored my orig. pricing(lesson learned: fly in early and take a bus to PDC, my bad). Eff, I was ready to party! I headed out to main strip and was greeted by party-goers, bars, clubs and restaurants, a felt this special vibe, ahhh BPM!! The collected parties I chose to attend on my short stay was All Day I Dream w/ Lee Burridge & Mathew Dekay, Marco Corola @ Mamitas, No.19 Music w/ Art Department, Pets Recordings w/ Catz N Dogz, Heidi, Danny Daze, Thugfucker, Life and Death Party w/ Tale Of Us, Mano Le Tough, Recondite, Dj Tennis, and Thugfucker and managed to swing by Richie Hawtin & Dubfire’s pop up set at El Fogon. Overall, I rested, read a book(lol), ate good food, went to Tulum and enjoyed the music. Not to mention they had a pretty handy app, that has lineups, maps, tickets, live radio and you could also upload your BPM photos. Will I go again? YUP!! Plenty to see, wished I stayed longer, till next time. Next stop Miami. 😉 _Alex

Good Life Techno – I

Here’s a visual intro to the Good Life Techno series done by Alex. The track in particular is by Tom Trago, Life of Plants & Flowers.

Beautiful life, beautiful techno.

“Very original, fantastically executed use of Plexus by Alex Trujillo in the first installment of his music video series. He very cleverly uses Plexus to track and augment the hummingbird wings. Very well done, can’t wait to see the rest of the series!”
