BOX x Bot & Dolly ~ Robots + 3D Mapping + Motiongraphics

“With Box, the short film released today by production house Bot & Dolly, never-before-seen robot-powered projection mapping on moving objects is revealed. In Box (above) a performer engages with a morphing set, as a flat panel transforms into a cube, and then a graphic world where shapes bend and blend and teleport across the stage. Eventually its revealed that a robotic mechanism is hidden behind every illusion.

As demonstrated in the film premiere above, this technique uses their state of the art robotic camera systems “Iris” and “Scout”, which allows for millimeter precision of the robot arms. The team has pioneered the use of robots that are normally used for manufacturing vehicles, and instead developed software to interface the robots in 3D system Maya. Specializing in automation, robotics, and filmmaking, Bot & Dolly’s technology puts robotics directly in the hands of creators. Designed to control camera movement, activate lights, and shift set pieces with ever-repeatable motion, this precision allows the virtual and physical worlds to unite and CG elements to match in real time. Not limited to film, their motion control advances have applications in live performance, experiential installations, and architecture.

Magda has been one of favorites artists at Visao Media. Having seen her a couple times; Burningman, Sunset Treasure Island and Monarch, SF, she really brings a textural techno sound you have to hear in person to understand. Hears a recent mix, if you’re looking to swim in the ocean of intellectual fish.

REBELRAVE #13: Dinosaurs and Flamingos

Here’s another Rebel Rave installment from our favorite director, David Terranova. #13 is focused on the featured artist of Get Lost VI mixed by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Terranova documents his experiences shooting artists and the occurrences while doing so. Terranova’s artistic direction, editing these down with sound are beautiful but edgy. Terranova breathes a little bit of nostalgia and human energy into all his videos.

“A couple of years ago I made a doco about TEED for Channel 4. It was for TV so I had to keep things safe and classy, but getting to mix Orlando with REBELRAVE was a much welcomed challenge. We had worked together a few times and I knew his sense of humour, so before shooting I had a certain idea in mind of what the editing style of the episode might be like.

My only regret was the Chinese massage. After a whole day of shooting in the rain, I wasn’t feeling too great about having enough content to make an episode, so I got together with Orlando the next morning and took him to an authentic massage place in Chinatown. What I saw in my mind was him lying down on his front whilst having a small woman painfully jumping up and down on his back, at the same time trying to explain his opinions on EDM to the camera. It wasn’t quite as exciting as that, in fact it was really boring. He just got a regular old fashioned massage which he enjoyed way too much.” Terranova

You can always expect high quality productions from this label as we have always been a fan and always keep one of the EP tracks on heavy rotation in our mixes. The Detroit based Autoclave EP comes with a variety of Nu Bass with an older feel. Not only do these tracks move the dancefloor, but hit the SUBs hard in all the oldschool rides. Stone Owl delivers an awesome remix of HerA$$ment which makes this EP a winner. Push Play.
