Hatched will be released as a full compilation on February 29 and for the DJs it’ll be available as three separate EPs: Part 1 being released on Jan 11; Part 2 on Jan 25; Part 3 on Feb 8.
Preface: 2011 was the year of hard-hitting basslines; pretty sure there should be a compilation category just for them. And I think we can all agree the front running deep house producer of said tracks is undoubtedly Maceo Plex (who should also have his own compilation category since he dominated every track chart this year). So in all fairness and support of the “little guys”, I chose to leave him out of my Top 5.
My Top 5 this year is all about the tracks that left the longest lasting impression. Personal criteria for this includes:
– How many hours did I listen to it on repeat?
– Did it make me want to cry with overwhelming joy?
– Was it a go-to track during a set at least 90% of the time?
– Did it ever get “old”?
– Did I lose my mind (in a good way) every time I heard it played live?
Without a doubt, all of these tracks fulfilled the above requirements. For me, it isn’t about the tracks that are the most “exclusive” or vice versa. It’s about what gets me excited, time after time; some might call it evoking emotion. Obviously this criteria also requires a lot of currently released tracks to not make the list. However, once they are “time tested”, so to speak, they too will prove their rank.
Best Mix of the Year takes the cake, hands down. Julio Bashmore’s stab at BBC’s Essential Mix was by far the most entertaining piece of music I’ve heard all year (almost ever).
VISAO wants to thanks everyone who has supported our events, the djs and producers, new and old friends that made this year very memorable, THANK YOU!!!
Bass, vocal and rhythm has deeply rooted with Erin’s music selections these past several months. Like most DJs, we all have our genre(s) that we love to listen to, Erin gives her first proper stab at the DnB. Her choice tracks are clean and refreshing to our ears without getting too grungy and hard. The Broken Dreams concept was conceived while on a trip to New York City this last month with featured tracks from Seathasky(Heartache), Motta and MsDos(Soul Sister), and Spectrasoul(The Gift) and great remix of Toni Braxton(Making me High). Artwork photographed by Erin, 15,000 feet off the ground, just fitting for this mix.

Soundcloud, the music sharing platform has come a long-way in such a short time. Soundcloud has allowed just about any musician, DJ, label, artist to upload music, share and get an immediate reaction from many listeners in minutes. Soundcloud(artists) expresses how “sound” is part of our everyday lives, similarly how Soundcloud has become part of our everyday lives.
Every time we discover a new sound, a new feeling takes over us. We sometimes want to be the first of our friends to share this new discovery/feeling. As the capabilities of the Soundcloud’s users grows, the possibilities of social entertainment and self-promotion as an artist/label grows.
Soundcloud has released apps for the iPhone and iPad.
Always a treat to see video work from David Terranova, his latest project collides with TEED(totallyenormousextinctdinosaurs). Terranova’s past works with Rebel Rave and Richie Hawtin has landed him in the driver’s seat with creative works fusing his passion of music and video. Terranova translates dance music into timeless visual harmony.
““I say that I make dance music,” he tells the filmmakers. “But most people in dance music say that they make house, or techno, or tech house, or trance, or drum ‘n’ bass, or liquid drum ‘n’ bass. And if we just kind of woke up tomorrow morning and there were none of these genres, you just had your record collection in front of you, you didn’t know what any of it was called or where it came from, it wouldn’t matter, that would be great! And you’d probably write some amazing music, and you’d love some music that you’d never loved before, because all the connotations and the weird ideas you have about whether it’s cool, and where it comes from, and what scene it is, and who wrote it, and whether you’ve heard it before—those would just be gone. I like that idea.” Orlando Higgingbothom

“Hungry?…You will be! Few producers in the history of dance music have made such a rapid and far-reaching impact on the electronic music scene as Eats Everything aka Bristolian Daniel Pearce. In the space of a few short months he has defined a whole new genre of forward thinking underground house music that draws elements from classic house, UK bass music, Detroit techno and early rave, paying homage to everything from Randy Crawford to Ray Charles…
His next two bass-laden dance bombs have been picked up Claude Von Stroke for his flagship Dirtybird label, due out this autumn. First up is Tic Trac, a co-production between Eats Everything and Worthy followed soon after by ‘The Size’ which is already been made Pete Tong’s ‘Essential New Tune’ and is tipped to be one of 2011’s biggest selling underground anthems.”_ElectronicGroove.com
