Guy Gerber is one of the most talented artists we follow. His work over the years has been very inspiring and we can relate when he sometimes struggles with over-thinking and complex ideas. He tells Resident Advisor for him to succeed, he has to keep it simple.

Bloc. Influences – Nicolas Jaar

Music, thoughts and why things are, the way they are…. with Nicolas Jaar.

Nicolas Jaar is, quite literally, the man of the moment. The recent college graduate released RA’s #1 album of last year, and garnered the top spot in our reader’s poll of the best live acts. His Clown & Sunset label recently put together a hotly debated art object called The Prism, which asks listeners to find a friend to listen to the music contained within. Such high-minded concepts come naturally to Jaar, whose comparative literature studies are a huge inspiration to his work as a musician. So that’s exactly where we started the conversation when we met him as part of our Live RA Exchange series at the 2012 Mutek Festival.

data.anatomy – Berlin

data.anatomy[civic] is a new audiovisual installation by Ryoji Ikeda, arising from a unique collaboration with Mitsuru Kariya, the development leader of the new Honda Civic.
Exhibited as a 3-screen video projection, data.anatomy [civic] immerses viewers in an intricate yet vast audiovisual composition derived from the entire data set of the car.

19 April – 1st May / Kraftwerk, Berlin

data.anatomy [civic] is driven by Apple computers, which feed three projectiondesign F32 projectors. These have a brightness of up to 8000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 7500:1, providing the necessary ‘wow’ factor for a work that’s predominantly monotone.

Voltage ~ Modular Animation

“Just like modular synthesizers, people connect with each other in order to achieve diverse objectives. In Voltage, robots, half-human and half-synthesizer, powered by a huge amount of energy, connect to each other in an electric and chaotic trance.” Bam.

Very cool animation from BAM studio, it’s great to see this subject get an artistic approach from a studio which connects the concept of sound and technology. We’d love to see a full animated movie with this concept.

The Creators Project ~ Richie Hawtin x Anish Kapoor

What happens when you combine the open space of a colossal atrium, a renowned sculptor with an electronic music pioneer? A monumental artistic experience, through shape, space and integration of music. This edition of the Creators Project, includes British sculptor, Anish Kapoor and M-nus producer, Richie Hawtin.

“My ambition,” said Kapoor in the press release, “is to create a space within a space that responds to the height and luminosity of the Nave at the Grand Palais. Visitors will be invited to walk inside the work, to immerse themselves in color, and it will, I hope, be a contemplative and poetic experience.”

Each year, Monumenta invites an internationally renowned artist to conceive of a site-specific installation for the great nave of the Grand Palais in Paris. The vast atrium space, which encompasses some 13,500 square meters, has been tackled previously by some of today’s preeminent contemporary artists, including Anselm Kiefer, Richard Serra and Christian Boltanski.
