Burningman 2014 Replay

Not one for many words, so here’s my brief recap about this year’s burn. Travel wasn’t bad, camping with a wedding group was nice(quite a few first timers, as many others so it seems), some of the best weather I’ve experienced out there, definitely A LOT more people, spirits were high and the art on the playa was in full effect. Many of the structures were highly planned and able to accommodate interaction of the sorts. Lots of fire, LEDs and music all night, the usual party on the moon feel, lots of new art cars, one in particular I loved and wished I had, was the LED pac-man ghost car. My favorite camp for sunrise parties was Disco Knights(**DJ Tennis), this year Robot heart didn’t post their sets, so I missed Thievery Corporation and a couple other sets, I did make it to Lee Burrridge and Thugfucker, loved it…but had the unfortunate luck of witnessing Skrillex get on the decks we left after 2.5 tracks(wtf?). Heard a lot of hype around Skrillex paired with whatever Seth Troxler had going on, honestly just play good music I don’t care about this dj or that one. Discovered the art of Android Jones, holy smokes, mind blown!! Watching a naked bronze bodybuilder chick do a photo shoot at sunrise was interesting. I could go on, but more randomness would weaken this brief recap. Ciao’_A

Some photos.

One of our favorite parties was Deep Ellum with Maceo Plex b2b w/ Danny Daze, pretty mind blowing techno set.

Good Life Techno – I

Here’s a visual intro to the Good Life Techno series done by Alex. The track in particular is by Tom Trago, Life of Plants & Flowers.

Beautiful life, beautiful techno.

“Very original, fantastically executed use of Plexus by Alex Trujillo in the first installment of his music video series. He very cleverly uses Plexus to track and augment the hummingbird wings. Very well done, can’t wait to see the rest of the series!”

BOX x Bot & Dolly ~ Robots + 3D Mapping + Motiongraphics

“With Box, the short film released today by production house Bot & Dolly, never-before-seen robot-powered projection mapping on moving objects is revealed. In Box (above) a performer engages with a morphing set, as a flat panel transforms into a cube, and then a graphic world where shapes bend and blend and teleport across the stage. Eventually its revealed that a robotic mechanism is hidden behind every illusion.

As demonstrated in the film premiere above, this technique uses their state of the art robotic camera systems “Iris” and “Scout”, which allows for millimeter precision of the robot arms. The team has pioneered the use of robots that are normally used for manufacturing vehicles, and instead developed software to interface the robots in 3D system Maya. Specializing in automation, robotics, and filmmaking, Bot & Dolly’s technology puts robotics directly in the hands of creators. Designed to control camera movement, activate lights, and shift set pieces with ever-repeatable motion, this precision allows the virtual and physical worlds to unite and CG elements to match in real time. Not limited to film, their motion control advances have applications in live performance, experiential installations, and architecture.

Box is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large-scale robotics, projection mapping, and software
engineering. Bot & Dolly’s technology is an integrated software/ hardware platform providing innovative control of 6-axis industrial robots.” Originally written by Creators Project

IBIZIOUS ENERGY DRINK

This video is just too good, not to post! If you’ve been to Ibiza, grew up in the 80’s and love dance music, you’re a pretty lucky and fortunate to experience these few things in life. This video just teases us with all the things we hope to enjoy in life as an adult with sweet childhood memories. We’re completely sold on the Ibizious energy drink, whether it exists or not. “Just take our money, already” as some people might say, when it comes to Ibiza. Nicely done, cheers!!

and here’s an extra goodie just for visiting, from our friends over at Dancetrippn!

Amnesia is one of the best clubs with the best soundsystems in the world. During Ibiza’s party season, every night has a different theme. You can find the likes of Sven Vath, Marco Carola & Luciano.

Here’s an older set, in case you’re new to Dancetrippin.

REBELRAVE #13: Dinosaurs and Flamingos

Here’s another Rebel Rave installment from our favorite director, David Terranova. #13 is focused on the featured artist of Get Lost VI mixed by Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Terranova documents his experiences shooting artists and the occurrences while doing so. Terranova’s artistic direction, editing these down with sound are beautiful but edgy. Terranova breathes a little bit of nostalgia and human energy into all his videos.

“A couple of years ago I made a doco about TEED for Channel 4. It was for TV so I had to keep things safe and classy, but getting to mix Orlando with REBELRAVE was a much welcomed challenge. We had worked together a few times and I knew his sense of humour, so before shooting I had a certain idea in mind of what the editing style of the episode might be like.

My only regret was the Chinese massage. After a whole day of shooting in the rain, I wasn’t feeling too great about having enough content to make an episode, so I got together with Orlando the next morning and took him to an authentic massage place in Chinatown. What I saw in my mind was him lying down on his front whilst having a small woman painfully jumping up and down on his back, at the same time trying to explain his opinions on EDM to the camera. It wasn’t quite as exciting as that, in fact it was really boring. He just got a regular old fashioned massage which he enjoyed way too much.” Terranova
